I have managed to lose 80 pounds of weight and maintain that loss for about 10 years. I am also a Paranoid Schizophrenic taking Zyprexa. This medication (also known as Olanzapine) is a second generation anti-psychotic and is notorious for weight gain. So managing to stay at the same weight that I was at high school is a very good effort.

I managed to achieve this weight loss over a period of about 5 years. You may consider this a long time but when you consider what I’m up against with the stress of my illness and side effects of the meds this is an exceptional achievement.

This book is essentially based on intuitive eating, mindful eating and NLP. Paul says he based this system on modelling the way naturally thin people eat. Those ones that seem to eat anything yet not put on weight. He says those folk are no different from you and I and by copying them we can all achieve the same results.

Here’s what I didn’t like about the ‘I Can Make You Thin’ system.

1) the psychological techniques take a lot of work and it’s difficult to distinguish just how effective they are.
2) part of the system is to throw away food if you’re comfortably satisfied but still have food on your plate
3) i lost teeth since you can eat what you want (too much sugar)

Here’s what I did like.

1) you just need the book- no special foods/no weight loss shakes/no supplements/no special exercise equipment…just the book
2) it was easy to lose the initial weight when I was obese (the first week l lost 2 pound without much effort)
3) easy to follow…since I could eat what I wanted there was no stress associated with trying to eat only ‘good foods’

Before I sign off I would like to say I owe a debt of gratitude to Paul for helping me lose this weight. Since I could eat whatever I wanted there wasn’t much of an inner battle or much will power needed to lose the weight (at least not initially).

Weight loss on second generation psych meds like Zyprexa is extremely difficult yet I’m still thin, happy and don’t have any inner struggle in maintaining this weight loss. However I now follow a form of intermittent fasting and can make healthier food choices while still enjoying the once a day treat.

My final rating is 4 stars out of 5. It would have highly unlikely for me to lose the weight had I not found Paul’s system. This was a life changer and I appreciate the way Paul McKenna helped me both physically and in terms of self esteem then self belief in my abilities to conquer new goals.

Signing off…your crazy grateful friend,
Chris.

  1. Chris that was a great achivement losing the weight , back then . like you say lots of factors and more to it to make it effective
and even harder to repeat it or replicate it for others . you were able to stay focused during the time and place when you achieved this weight loss ,no distractions ,lucky pizza hut was not across the road.

  2. I asked my doctor to get me off of Olanzapine. She was hesitant about me getting off of it. I’m schizoaffective bipolar type. I lost 45lbs off of it but I had to go back on Olanzapine again because my psychotic symptoms came back. Lithium was helping my mood but couldn’t stop my psychotic symptoms. It sucks that Anti-psychotic drugs cause so much weight gain.

  3. Hi just wondering hopefully you see this and write back, i'm currently doing intermittent fasting and i'm on olanzapine too, were you on a high dose or low dose when you lost the weight.
    Thank you.

  4. pretty damn cool … impressive video. I've been on olanzapine for over 16 years and know about the weight gain. God bless you brother

  5. I take olanzapine also and am struggling with eatting I'm going to attempt going from 10 mg down to 5 mg with the approval of my Dr
