Sarah le Brocq has struggled with her weight for most of her life. She was told that fertility can be affected by obesity, but knew that she wanted to become a mother one day. However, as Sarah finally fell pregnant, the pregnancy was not at all a walk in the park, as she was constantly reminded of the risks of being pregnant while being obese. Listen to Sarah’s story and the fact that medical issues were not the main obstacle for a happy pregnancy, she was constantly faced with stigmatisation and prejudices.

  1. It is your fault, obesity is not genetic, it's not a disease. Just stop eating, listen to the Doctor. Just stop eating.

  2. I loved seeing your daughter in the audience ♥️ it’s scary to be obese and pregnant (I know bc I am) but once you have that child it’s like “ok, this was 100% worth it”)

  3. Sonography’s has something to do with acoustic penetration. Thick abdominal wall can hinder sound waves from entering and exiting the body. Nobody in the health care wants to offend obese people or make fun of them. When you are ok with your body you should be quiet ok to accept the instructions given to you.
When you are ok to take insulin for your diabetes you should be ok to follow and listen to the instruction given by your health care provider.
All the people who are underweight or over weight or too young or too old fall under the risk category. It is common for health care providers to tel you the risk you may be subjected to as a matter of fact. Some lucky people will not get affected. Some people will definitely be affected. I myself have seen high risk mums dying due to gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, obesity etc.
My colleague doctor died from cardiac arrest during IVF procedure ( she was obese)
A mom of twins passed away on 4 post of day( she was a teen and under weight)
A young mom passed away in the labour room due to preeclampsia.

Even with advanced science and technology we were not able to save any of them.
There is risk everywhere, but it the responsibility of your health care provider to explain/ inform. There is no offence

  4. I’m crying! What a beautiful story, congrats on being a mommy! 💜 I’m trying for my 2nd child at 34 right now… I got pregnant with my first child so easily but I’ve gained weight over the past 11 years… If it’s meant to be I will get to be a mommy again. ☺️

  5. Obesity is your fault and no one elses sure your parents and environment plays a role but not enough to do that , stop acting innocent and admit its your fault

  6. I was in that very same position with my son and I was a little smaller than her. I didn't enjoy what was supposed to be a happy time

  7. Thank you, I don’t know where I need to go from here but I’m struggling and I am scared I can’t have children. I’m 33 and no one will listen to me in the uk. My doctors have been awful.

  8. I’ve tried several times during the pandemic to get help and I can’t see a human to help me. My periods stopped for a time and they came back very lightly for a year or so. But no one is willing to see me. I feel desperate and I need help but the uk doctors that I am seeing tell me I have to be slim even without seeing me. I need help and I’m getting desperate. I’m 33 and it scares me I’ll never be a mum.

  9. Wow, this just popped up in my feed & I’m so thankful it did. Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m also obese, even though I despise that word. I’ve struggled with being overweight my whole life. When I was in my 30’s I decided to change some of my habits & after working out & eating better I lost over 100 lbs. Then we decided to have a baby & I ended up having a healthy set of twins boys! Now I’m 41 & after wanting a girl for years, we’re now trying to conceive again. It’s been a few months now & I’ve been worried I won’t be able to conceive due to my age & weight. I felt everything you said to my soul. Thank you for reminding me that I’m allowed to want this💕 and we can defy the odds! I’m so happy for you that you were able to start a family! Your daughter is beautiful, just like her mom💞

  10. So inspiring. I had preeclampsia and gestational diabetes in my pregnancy too. I hate to admit that I’ve gained 50 lbs since giving birth 4 years ago to my beautiful daughter. But thus history and weight gain absolutely terrified me when I think about having another. I’m not sure I can do it again.

  11. This is why obesity should be addressed in childhood. Once you're an adult, it can feel like it's too late and too overwhelming to change your lifestyle to one that promotes health when you've been living an obesity-causing lifestyle your whole life.
