What Is Yohimbine And What Does It Do?

Yohimbine comes from the yohimbe plant and works by increasing levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline in the body to improve fat mobilization.

It’s also claimed that yohimbine supplements preferentially target “stubborn fat” (areas that contain high amounts of alpha receptors) though this has not been proven.

Yohimbine also suppresses appetite and increases energy levels.

Does Yohimbine Work?

There is quite a bit of research out there on this compound, and on paper it does look promising. However, many of the studies contain certain limitations and it’s unclear how much of the weight loss produced is from water weight vs. fat.

In any case, yohimbine hcl probably does produce a small fat burning effect, though like any supplement, the effect will be modest (as in a few percent of added results) and not a guarantee.

Yohimbine Side Effects: Warning

Though yohimbine supplements are one of the few fat loss products out there that do have some good research behind them, it’s important to note that it is highly stimulatory and can exacerbate symptoms of anxiety and panic in those prone to it. This is a powerful compound and is not to be taken lightly.

Those with bipolar disorder should also avoid it, and those who are using neurological medications will want to be very careful as well due to potential interactions.

Should You Use Yohimbine?

If you’re toward the end of a cutting phase and just want a small boost to help you lose that last bit of fat, yohimbine hcl could be a viable option. Just don’t expect any miracles, and be very cautious with it.

If you still have a lot of fat to lose then don’t bother though, since fat mobilization will be easy to achieve through regular training and diet alone.

Yohimbine Dosage

The standard yohimbine dose is 0.2mg per KG of body weight. Start at a low dose and gradually increase to assess your tolerance. Don’t use it for a prolonged period (tolerance will develop in as little as 2 weeks) and make sure to cycle it as well.

  1. I got a bottle from gnc and it’s say 450 mg on the bottle? I’m reading some places don’t take more than 100 mg. Any insight?

  2. I took it and the only thing I noticed was ridiculously hard erections.

    I mean, it's not like I needed it for that but huge pro I must say.

I want to use a stimulant for mental alertness due to work from home.Shall I use yohimbine(vasodilator)or caffeine(vasoconstrictor).I am using citrulline malate(vasodilator)as pre-workout.the stimulant will only be used when I am feeling fatigue/sleepy during work from home say 3 times a week and not on regular basis.

  6. I am not lean, I spend 45min workout everyday with diet and the weight still not come down…very desperate. I have to try yohimbine out to see if it helps.
